I specifically do what is called western medical acupuncture or "dry needling". This is not based on the Chinese acupuncture ideas but on our current understanding of anatomy, neurology and physiology along with a growing research base.
In the clinic I use acupuncture for treating certain cases of muscle pain, muscle spasm and soft tissue healing. I have also seen many patients get excellent response to treatment for headaches which in many cases can be referred from trigger points in the neck and face area.
It's important to note that acupuncture alone may not be able to fully get you better but it can provide a substantial part of the strategy to get you there.
In the clinic I use only one brand of single-use sterile acupuncture needle which is designed for comfort.
